J. Carmichael writes ballads about love and a world spinning out of control. He has been defiant, perhaps to a fault, for most of his life, and it echoes in his music, from the way he writes to the instruments he plays, to what he writes about. Never content being confined within a genre, he grew up on Nashville Now and 90’s punk and indie and is influenced by the songwriting giants of any genre; just as comfortable at a fiddle festival as he is at a punk rock show.
